Ponte Perfection Introduction

Ponte is pure fabric genius! It's one of the most versatile and popular fabrics available, and for many top designers it's a favorite, season after season. I first discovered Ponte (pronounced PON-tee) several years ago when I purchased a pair of Eileen Fisher pants. The pants were so comfortable to wear and easy to care for, and best of all, they had stretch but didn't bag out. I was intrigued by the characteristics of this wonderful fabric and began to hunt for Ponte to make my own garments!

Ponte has a doubleknit construction, and therefore looks the same on both sides. It can vary in fiber content; most prevalent is a mix of rayon/polyester/nylon/spandex, but also available are wool/nylon/spandex, cotton/spandex or polyester/spandex. The pontes with a higher percentage of rayon, wool or cotton generally tend to be better quality than the ones with a higher percentage of polyester. Ponte is also available in different weights, but most Pontes are a versatile medium weight that can be used for many different types of garments. A stable, firm fabric with some stretch both lengthwise and crosswise, it has great recovery, and stays looking great over time.
